English Language Arts
7th GRADE ENGLISH/LANGUAGE ARTS – 2 period block – 1 year
7th Grade English
The course is designed to emphasize the study of English using a District-adopted textbook, and the study of significant literary works identified on the seventh grade core literature list as well as common core supplemental materials. Elements of language arts (reading, writing, listening, and speaking) are taught as separate subjects, then integrated and mutually reinforced within the program. Writer’s Workshop is included as part of the program. English/Language Arts is two grades on report cards due to the double period.
7th Grade Honors English/Language Arts*
This honors course is designed to master the 7th grade standards and incorporate the 8th grade standards into rigorous above grade level curriculum. Students will be challenged to become creative, critical thinkers who are college and career ready. Placement in Honors English is based on state and district test results, teacher recommendation and GPA.
*Honors English qualifies students to apply for the Pre AP/IB Honors Academy in the Fall.
